I have loved drawing and sketching since I was little. I spent my childhood not only running in the sun with my flipflops, but sketching on whatever I could get my hands on. My colour pencils would roam freely on paper, the inside covers of my textbooks or even on my bedroom walls — I’ll bet my teachers and parents weren’t too thrilled!
For many years I took my love for drawing for granted — it was just something totally natural, like when someone is musical. As I grew older and my appreciation of colour and the characters I created became more sophisticated, I realised my drawings were not just a pet hobby but an addiction. The world of my characters has spread in my imagination; I have breathed life in them. Each tell a story and have their own background, like people in a novel. Many have a girlish sweetness, as well as a strong desire to express their emotions. Most of all, they are always curious about the world.
I am still fascinated by the world of childhood, in my drawings. By turning casual pencil sketches into digital art, and adding colour to liven them up, I gain a huge satisfaction. Perhaps part of me wants to hang on to a child’s innocence as well. In a world that is changing constantly, where strife and the rat-race are never far behind, I take refuge in my characters to convince myself that, no matter where life takes a person, there is still a place of pureness and simplicity in his or her heart.
My world of colour pencil sketches, simple lines and childlike perspectives blend together in a story of innocence. I hope my viewers will retreat into this world of joy with me. |
